At What Age Should Your Kuvasz Be When Buying A Puppy ? |
It is always most fun to get a young puppy, (eight weeks is about as early as a puppy should be plunged into a new environment.) |
From six to sixteen weeks is thought to be the most important period of a puppy's life for development of personality. It is easier to introduce a younger dog into a family, where there are young children and other animals for him to fit in with. The younger dog may be more trouble to feed and look after, but he will learn to fit your family like a glove. |
Occasionally, it may be better to get an older puppy, if you can't deal with the physical requirements of a baby. If you decide, you want an older puppy, it is best to get one from a breeder who may have kept several from one litter. While adult dogs have often made wonderful transition into a new family, it is wise to approach the acquisition of an older dog with considerable caution. |
Be sure you check his registration to see if he is, in fact, owned by the seller. Find out why he is being sold - people are rarely willing to part with a beloved Kuvasz. If at all possible, arrange to keep the dog for a few weeks on approval to be sure he will fit into your family. Anyone truly interested in finding a good home for his dog should be willing to do this. |
An older dog can take up to 6 months to bond and become the dog of your heart, but it is worth it. The kuvasz is a sensitive and yet very gentile animal and never forgets his or her family and with his big heart has lots of love to go around. |
